A couple of days ago, I was safely at a 4 way intersection at a complete stop. When my turn came, I looked both ways and started out. There was a car coming the other direction, but it was a long way away and I was sure she’d stop. I put my brakes on once I realized she wasn’t going to stop. I watched her red Buick fly by me at around 40 miles per hour just a few feet from the front of my Toyota Sienna completely oblivious to the fact that she almost t-boned me.
I know I’ve not seen a few stop signs in my day and I’m sure you have too. The Sienna at 230,000 miles gets to drive another day. Oh yeah, I do too. The intersection was right in front of the hospital. Location. Location. Location.
Well fast forward to today and I had a phone interview scheduled for 9:00 this morning with the owner of an actuarial firm in Austin. An interview I’d had scheduled for over a week and have been patiently waiting for. When my phone rang at 8:40 with the Austin area code on the caller ID, I knew that wasn’t necessarily a good sign. The employee who scheduled the interview with me in the first place said that her boss couldn’t make the scheduled call due to the fact that he was in a car accident. She said he was ok, but the car wasn’t and he needed to deal with all the stuff that comes with having a car accident and re-scheduled me for tomorrow.
So, I have to be patient for another day and I’m glad my story was just a close call and not the real thing.
WOW Jim! Reckon my daily prayers have new meaning! So glad you were protected. I remember once sitting at a light and my arrow came on and for some reason I sat for about 5-10 seconds (not my normal procedure
) and as I did a big semi came barreling through without even slowing down. I would have been toast if I had gone. So glad you are okay. Sorry to hear about the man in Austin. But God’s timing is perfect. (Don’t you just hate to hear that?)
I have been the one at fault on the running the red light thing too. Once I was cycling (I was probably around 21 or 22 years old) and was looking at the light for the other intersection to time the light so I wouldn’t have to stop. Since I was focused on that light, something happened in my brain and all of a sudden I transferred that green light onto my direction and rode right through the intersection. God protected me and there were no cars in the intersection at that time. To this day, I still don’t know how my brain thought my light was green.
I think those times are little reminders that we really aren’t in charge of our lives.
God’s timing is perfect. If we lived by our timing, you would have gone at the light and … well, you know.
Oh, my! How I love it that your foot stayed on the brake rather than anticipate moving forward with foot on accelerator! Thank You, Lord! Thank you for sharing that story. Great motivation for being watchful and prayerful. The interview today will be good and a chance for God to get even more glory from those of us blessed to see Him at work in your life, once AGAIN!
Bill – my wife got T-boned by a Dodge 3500 pickup after waiting with the arrow for 20-sec. She was ok – definitely heavenly protected. Of course the guy didn’t have insurance (had a card, but had cancelled the policy 3-weeks earlier).
DJ, glad to hear you listened to that still small voice that whispered “She’d not stopping” and avoided that accident. Still praying for you and your job search, my friend.
